Rehabilitation services for post-COVID patients now offered in the area

The COVID-19 pandemic has local health care systems adapting in ways not required in the recent past. Approximately 5% of COVID-19 cases progress to moderate or severe acute respiratory distress syndrome necessitating ICU care, causing damage in the lungs, fatigue and other health problems. However, many people infected with COVID-19 don’t require ICU care or even hospitalization. Less that 20% of Louisianians diagnosed with COVID-19 required hospitalized care, and the remainder are left at home or in skilled facilities to weather the disease. According to the Louisiana Department of Health, there currently 380,673 presumed recovered Louisianians from COVID-19, with many still suffering from shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue, insomnia, depression, and pain.

Where can these survivors turn? Clinical Faculty of the LSU Health - Shreveport, SAHP, Faculty Rehab Clinic (FRC) have established a COVID-19 Rehabilitation Recovery program to assist in identifying, assessing, and managing the long-term effects of COVID-19. We offer comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for rehabilitative needs post-COVID following a patient-centered care model. Patient centered care revolves around the patient’s goals, values, and individual physical needs, regardless of insurance restrictions or ability to pay.

If you suffer from post-COVID issues and would like to speak with a rehabilitation specialist, please contact the FRC at 318-813-2970.
