1921 Bour-Davis Motor Car to be added to Louisiana State Museum in Shreveport on August 16th
July 31st, 2011

Secretary of State Tom Schedler and the Friends of LSEM, Inc. announce the installation of a 1921 Bour-Davis Motor Car in the Rotunda of the museum.  The public is invited to attend a reception on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, from 6:00 pm until 7:30pm, where Secretary of State Schedler will preside.  Light refreshments will be served.

The Ark-La-Tex Antique and Classic Car Association worked for over twenty years to complete the restoration of the only known Model 21-S car still in existence.  Originally built in Shreveport by the Louisiana Motor Car Company, it was one of several models offered to the public.

The Touring Model is a luxurious five passenger touring car, which originally sold for $1,550 in 1921.  The Ark-La-Tex Antique and Classic Car Association re-assembled the car by continuously searching for parts from all over the country.   In 1991, the Club retrieved a Bour-Davis frame and chassis from the woods near Peoria, Illinois.  The following year, a Continental 9N Red Seal Engine and Drive train surfaced in a New Jersey junk yard.  The car’s body came from San Diego.  The members of the Club fabricated a new top and painted the body to match the original color – in a turquoise finish.  By 2004, the first test drive proved successful.

For exhibit at the museum, the Club installed new black leather upholstery and plans for custom wheel covers will complete the restoration.  Although the car is in original driving condition, the Club removed the gas tank and battery for installation within the museum.

The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular museum hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road, between Hearne and Jewella Streets.

Admission is free and tours are available by appointment.
