Medicare fraud costs American tax payers $60 billion each year. That’s $60 billion dollars that cannot be used for healthcare because it is in the pockets of dishonest providers and unscrupulous con artists. Louisiana Senior Medicare Patrol educates Medicare beneficiaries to prevent, detect and report potential Medicare fraud. Many Medicare scams are designed to trick beneficiaries into providing their Medicare number to someone who promises to provide free medical equipment or free medical services. Senior Medicare Patrol, or SMP, helps seniors protect themselves from these scams.

Currently, Louisiana SMP is looking for volunteers in Bossier, Caddo and Webster parishes to help spread this important anti-fraud information. Volunteers work booths at senior expos, health fairs and other community events. They also present short education sessions to Medicare beneficiaries at senior centers, retirement homes, elderly housing units, church groups and other places where seniors congregate.
