Grandparents Raising Grandchildren to Host Shreveport Conference on March 16th

The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Information Center of Louisiana (GRGICL) will host a conference on Wednesday, March 16, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel located at 1419 East 70th Street in Shreveport, Louisiana . Grandparents and Louisiana Relatives as Parents (LaRAPP) from across the state are invited to attend.  Registration begins at 8:00a.m.

The conference is free for grandparents and others raising relatives’ children.  Providers of services to these grandparents are also encouraged to attend.   To register, please call 318-676-7900 or email lagrginfo@yahoo.com.  You can register online at http://www.lagrg.org/

Participants must register by March 14th to receive FREE lunch.

The theme for the conference is “Promoting Healthy Family Relationships.”   The keynote speaker is Barbara W. Green, M.Ed.; LPC; LMFT.   Ms. Green is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Ordained Minister, motivational speaker and author of “The Parent Anointing.”  She is the President and CEO of an international business, Inner Reflections Counseling and Training Agency.

The GRGICL priorities include grandparents’ physical and mental health, and the safety of their families. With increased use of cell phones and computers, we want to make sure the grandparents are up-to-date on the benefits and  pitfalls of both, for adults and children.   We will also share resources that are

available to them, so they  know where to seek assistance.  Workshops include sessions on: partnerships with schools, overcoming  grief and loss, taking advantage of community resources, and internet safety for youth and families.    The combined expertise of the speakers will lead to  information packed sessions for grandparents and other Louisiana Relatives as Parents (LaRAPP). Additionally, grandparents and others raising relatives children will also have an opportunity to pose questions about the legal process with a team of lawyers during a panel discussion led by lawyers.

For more information about the conference, please contact the project manager, Pat Robinson, at 225-335-0322 or email robinpat2004@yahoo.com or register on line at http://www.lagrg.org/
