Donations to Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana are needed
March 5th, 2010

Feinstein Offers Another $1 Million Challenge

To Help Fight Hunger

For the 13th  straight year, Alan Shawn Feinstein will divide $1 million among hunger fighting agencies nationwide using it to help them raise funds during March and April.  Feinstein’s past $1 million challenges to fight hunger has raised millions for agencies nationwide.  Donors can also know that their donation during this campaign makes them partners in the most successful grassroots campaign to fight hunger of all times.

Locally, donations (including food drives) made to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana from March 1st to April 30th will help increase the amount of the Feinstein Foundation’s donation to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.

The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana is the largest distributor of donated food for our 7 parish area. We sort, warehouse and distribute food to over 100 partner agencies which then give it to people in need. People affected by hunger in our community are often hard-working adults, children and seniors who simply cannot make ends meet and are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days.  Some partner agencies operate pantries, bagging up sacks of groceries for parents to take home to hungry families such as Noel Neighborhood Ministries and Operation Blessing. Some agencies prepare and serve meals to the hungry like Christian Services and Airline Church of Christ. Many others are shelters such as Providence House, Salvation Army, and the Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission, providing refuge for people who require short or long term assistance. Still other groups distribute food to the elderly, many of whom are home-bound or chronically ill.

We save these agencies millions each year by providing free and low cost food and products.  Last year alone we distributed more than 4.5 million pounds of food!  For more information, please call 318-675-2400 or log onto the website at www.foodbanknla.org
