No Pardons to Ask, nor Apologies to Make, released by the University of Tennessee Press, is the title of a new book that details the wartime service of Bossier Parish soldier William Henry King during the Civil War. Edited by Gary Joiner, Marilyn Joiner and Clifton Cardin, the book relates the soldier’s activities from his enlistment in Bossier parish in 1862 to the last readable pages in 1865.

The book is part of the University of Tennessee’s “Voices of the Civil War” series.

A copy of the journal in the Bossier History Center was located by Cardin, who took it to historian and LSU professor, Dr. Gary Joiner. Cardin worked to locate an ancestor who could give permission to publish the diary, the original of which is in the University of Texas archives. Cardin worked diligently to create a family genealogy and researched families and place names in Bossier. Dr. Joiner provided the historical and military citation, and his wife, Marilyn, transcribed the bulk of the diary, helped with editing and researched an appendix King called “Extras.”
