Community Raises More Than $1.2 million in 24 hours

77 local nonprofits benefit

The Community Foundation of North Louisiana is delighted to announce the community raised $ 1,213,902.58 for 77 local nonprofits.

Holy Angels was the top earner in both dollars and donors, with $144,259 and 242 donors. The organizations with the second and third most donors were Robinson Film Center with 217 and Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana with 164, respectively. The organizations with the second and third most dollars raised were Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center at $107,055 and Community Renewal International at $84,060, respectively.

This online giving day captured the generous spirit of our community. One goal of this event was to demonstrate everyone can be a philanthropist. There were 1,897 gifts received in the amount of $25 or less and there were 745 first-time donors. Other statistics include donations from 44 states in the United States and an average gift size was $214.

The event began on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 12 a.m. and ended at 11:59 p.m. During these hours, all dollars raised through The Community Foundation’s giving website, were amplified with cash and prizes from a $261,000 Lagniappe Fund. The Community Foundation committed $100,000 to this Fund, with special thanks to the other corporate Lagniappe Fund donors: Grayson Foundation; Powers Foundation; Beaird Foundation; Brown Builders, Inc.; Cook, Yancey, King & Galloway; Heard, McElroy & Vestal; Chesapeake Energy; Bistro Byronz, and individual donors.
