Dialing 211 on your telephone for social services needs
October 1st, 2004

Beginning on October 1st for persons living in the 11 pariehes in Northwest Louisiana, a person can dial 211 from their telephone to obtain information and assistance regarding social services needs.

The 211 system in Northwest Louisiana is operated by CenterPoint.
Calls and information received will be routed to the appropriate agenices to assist the person.

The majority of social services calls into the Centerpoint Referral system deals with seven major needs -- housing, prescription medications, tranportation needs, payment assistance for utility bills, and identification needs. Callers can expect a response to their call into 211 system without 48 hours.
