Caregiver of the Year Contest

At 3rd Annual Family Caregiver's event on November 6th

The 3rd Annual Family Caregivers’ Celebration is scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2015, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hamilton/South Caddo Branch Library, 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, Shreveport.

During November, National Family Caregivers’ Month, events to honor and recognize the more than 65 million family caregivers occur around the nation. The tradition was established by President Clinton in 1997 who signed the first proclamation honoring family caregiving. This year individuals who have been caring for family or other loved ones as their unpaid caregivers for more than a year are invited to enter the Caregiver of the Year Contest by writing their stories and submitting them to bbandariesAPROMISEKEPT@comcast.net between September 1 and October 15. More information can be obtained by writing to the same address. The contest is being sponsored by Darcy Henagan Insurance Agency. The winner will be announced at the 3rd Annual Family Caregivers’ Celebration on November 6, 2015.

Former caregiver and local author, Bonita Bandaries and representatives from community service agencies are hosting a free event to celebrate the contributions of family caregivers and recognize them for their unpaid service to their loved ones. This year’s feature speaker is Gary Calligas, publisher of The Best of Times Magazine and host of The Best of Times Radio Hour each Saturday on 710KEEL. Guests may obtain information, register for drawings, and enjoy refreshments. Donations of cans of food for the NWLA Food Bank will be accepted.
